What is IEC?

IEC (Import Export Code) is a 10-character alphanumeric code issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). It is mandatory for anyone in India involved in the export or import of goods, and can be useful for export of services.

Who Needs IEC?

Export or import physical goods (whether B2B or B2C, exept for personal use only, not for any commercial purpose).
Run a Private Limited Company, LLP, or proprietorship selling goods abroad.
Want to claim government export incentives under the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP).
Export services and your bank requires IEC for processing international payments.
